A study of the providers selfish behaviors in interdomain networks based on a new model for QoS provisioning

چکیده
Management of QoS in interdomain networks has become a crucial task, either for ASs providing the final services or ASs acting as transit service providers. Indeed, the fully decentralized manner in which interdomain is operated, requires a distributed algorithms for QoS management. However, when designing distributed algorithms for networks, it is usually assumed that the participants collaborate in order to collectively achieve optimal global performance. Unfortunately, this assumption does not hold in interdomain networks, particulary when it concerns the providers benefits. Generally providers tend to be selfish and always attempt to maximize their local objectives and self-interests. Game theory provides a natural framework for the study of providers interactions by considering them as a players that compete to maximize their economic revenues and minimize losses in the long run. The primary motivation of this paper is to develop a QoS game framework that encompasses key aspects of both QoS policies and network design games. We use pricing mechanisms as means to regulate the provider’s decisions and we investigate two particular strategies for prices updates. Regarding these pricing strategies, we focus on the impact of provider’s selfishness on both network efficiency and the provider’s purposes. We have simulated the proposed strategies and we have shown that under some assumptions, selfishness can have a good effect for both network and providers.

Improving QoS and security in wireless ad hoc networks by mitigating the impact of selfish behaviors: a game-theoretic approach
Selfish users are known to be a severe security threat for wireless ad-hoc networks. In particular, they can exploit mechanisms designed to assure QoS in the network. In this paper the problem of backoff misbehavior in IEEE 802.11 EDCA networks is studied using a game-theoretic approach. First, it is shown how this selfish behavior can disrupt traffic differentiation. Then, a solution is propos...
متن کاملA New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions
Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...
متن کاملThe Virtual Topology Service: A Mechanism for QoS-Enabled Interdomain Routing
In this paper we present the Virtual Topology Service (VTS), a new approach to provide interdomain services taking into account QoS and Traffic Engineering (TE) constraints. It is known that in these days the provisioning of end-to-end interdomain connections does not consider any type of QoS due to limitations of the BGP routing protocol. At the same time, many extensions have been proposed to...

Today, the most important aspect related with the Internet architecture is its ossification representing the difficulties to introduce evolutions in the architecture as a way to meet the demands posed by the new requirements as mobility, security, heterogeneity, etc. In this paper we discuss how the network virtualization can be used to support the interdomain QoS-enabled routing. We present th...
